I hope to finish this piece soon! Soft pastel on Ampersand, 16"x20", seems like I'm getting back to surrealism but with pastels which I discovered much easier to use for backgrounds and gradients.

I just finished new pastel artwork - Hidden Falls Park, Auburn.
On our way to the Hidden falls I was amazed by the scenery of ridges and creeks, and of course hidden falls.
I'm so glad I have started using Ampersand Pastel Board as a support, it gives mush more opportunities than canson.

Here is Floral Panel - 3 tryptichs ( 9 canvases) I 've told about in previous post.
Acrylic paintings on canvas, gallery wrap, painted on edges and can be hung on the wall without framing. Central vertical triptych called Young Fern, couple of dancing young sprouts of fern. Fern is favorite plant of my mom, I think she likes it for its repeating pattern of leaves which consists from the same order of petals.

We like this hammock, but only one thing we didn't expect is those three people in hammock shown on picture - are petite people. So if you are a big tall man prepare that other people and their legs will roll on you if you are trying sit together two or three. Again it is so stretchy if you sitting across you feet position will higher then your head. But generally we love it when used alone.

The next artwork from our Clementine Lake trip. After sketching and making photos of interesting light effects on the steep road, I finished it in soft pastel at home later. I used Mingyo pastel chalks and Canson pastel paper with size 12"x16" as a support.

Getting known your roots!

Two years ago I found artworks of my granduncle on internet, I wish I could find his photo to see but I couldn't. I had only a full name of my ancestor who lived long life and already passed away. After reading his biography I finally have found a lot of answers about my own creative life, art and destiny. Why did I study Architecture somewhere else while I had a grand uncle who was a professor of art at an Architectural Academy thousands of miles away from my place? Why didn’t I ever see his paintings, art studio and never met him or his kids or grand kids in person? Why did he become an artist if he studied architecture and had a master degree of architecture?
It’s a long weird story of our family, broken links and forgotten names.
And it’s a hard lesson of history we must never forget. This oil painting called Ural

Tiny beauty from Clementine Lake!

It was a warm, and sunny morning in January, when we went to the Clementine Lake in Auburn, for a walk. It is an artificial lake with a dam, on the American River. It’s a very picturesque place despite it's artificial origin. I'm not really into hiking, so when I stopped and tried to take my breath on our way back up the steep road I noticed this little, green flower or plant, in the middle of a vertical wall of huge rocks. Mother nature is such a magnificent designer. It had sat tight on a rock surface for years! The diameter of this plant wasn't bigger than one inch and I used a macro setting for my camera to take a close picture. This soft pastel artwork is 12"x16" on Canson pastel paper.

Winter in Sacramento - wet and stormy! One day I looked through the window and said to myself, Why not to try to depict this pretty view of this rare illumination of a neighbor's house, by the rays of the sun peeking from the clouds? I enjoyed painting direct from nature without any sketches and "reference" photos.

It's definitely a seductive medium - soft pastel! I created two more works - Teaparty I and Teaparty II! When I took a yellow chalk I wasn't planning anything, and I didn't have any ideas on my mind. I just started from one shape and continued to find something that matches to the frontal compositon of blocks, then it became a bookshelf with books or downtown or a tiny Greece island in front of a world miracle...Last seagulls are coming, the sailing yachts of Juno's Flotilla.

I just finished a pastel painting - Toronto Downtown. With every next artwork I'm falling in love with soft pastel for its vibrant colors and ability to blend them. New body called Juno's Flotilla, which means Youth (Boats) , Joy ( Sun swirls) and Freshness (Wind and Tides) are coming to different places from an old dusty bookshelf to the big busy cities.
